The Fighting Ogre-Hai

Postby Comrade_Nikolai » Tuesday 3rd January, 2012 7:09 pm

ok, so for quite a while now I've been wanting to armour up some ogres (or minotaurs), but my extreme laziness means that the ogres will be a much more suitable army as I can get away with around 30-35 models, so don't have to put a lot of effort into what I consider the worst part of warhammer; getting my army out and trying to rank all the models up.

Anyway, having watched Lord of the rings one too many times I've decided to base them on Uruk-Hai, here are my in progress pictures:

These guys are going to be my ironguts:

Ogre bulls:

A bunch of greenstuff shields ready to be glued on:

The helmets, shields and shoulders are all press moulded due to the need for consistency. The breast plates are all done one by one, as are their faces (which you can see I haven't finished yet)

here are what the shields, helmets and shoulders look like when they come out of the mould, needless to say there's a lot of cleanup work necessary.

the beserker helmets will be for maneaters, which I'll hopefully have done soon.

hopefully I'll have some pictures of the mournfangs up soon.

ps. ignore unit sizes for now, I've learnt my lesson from my Daemon army and am trying to make more of everything, and have it as interchangeable as possible, so i can alter the army whenever i feel like a change.

Yeah, these will look great when you have them painted, kudos for taking the time to convert these up, I think I'd go crazy :)

Did you just pick up sculpting on a trial and error basis or did you find any good websites that offered guidance/tutorials?

Trial and error mainly, I think that like painting, its all just patience; you've got to do simple shapes at a time, and layer it up slowly.
Unfortunately I didn't make the effort to work our any resin casting, next time I do it I might try that to get better quality from my mould.

Yeah, I tend to try and do everything at once.

The casts look like they came out pretty nicely, did you use an oyumaru type stuff for the molds? Ive never had much luck castIng with GS so I only really work with resin, which makes mess and is horrible :(

I'm looking at making a tyrant (something I haven't made a model for yet) and I'm trying to figure out what model to use. Everything is based on the bull body so far and he needs to be different, so currently I'm thinking of using the pirate maneater model as its pretty much the pose I want. Can anyone give me an idea of what parts it comes in and where the splits in the components are?

Maneaters, nearly done. I've still got to finish off their faces.
