The New Year Project

Postby thepaintingmonkey » Monday 2nd January, 2012 8:53 pm

As Scrowe's idea for us all to build new armies at a measured pace got quite a positive responce I thought I'd set up a thread here for progress to be reported.

So far the following people have shown interest:

Morph : Bretonnians
thepaintingmonkey: Dark Elves
Sam: Skaven
Dephiler: Vampire Counts
Nik: Ogres
Talorian: Goblins
Palfry: Empire
noodle: Something, maybe 40k maybe Dark Elves
Tommen: Speed Freaks
seriesofbadjokes: Something, maybe Skaven

If anyone else wants to join in there's plenty of time before the start date of 21st Jan. I say start, that's the point we have to have the first 250pt force painted by.

Any thoughts or questions on what you're up to or if you want to chat about the project, post it here. We could even bring in a camera and update this with complete force pics every two weeks.
Feel free to let us know how your force is doing, but if you think you might post quite a lot then why not set up a seperate painting log? Like what I'm going to go and do now....

I don't think i'm exactly going to be following your schedule mike, I'm going to try to get the whole lot assembled and converted before I can start painting. Pictures inbound!

On the 40k front - well I suggested warhammer, but if someone had got there first with uggesting 40k I'd have been fine with that. Personally I can't do both at the same time though. Maybe we could try running a 40k version later in the year? After summer perhaps? (that's not to stop people painting 40k now and telling us about it of course, just that I don't want to miss out on the fun :D )

I know that the 40k people can't join in with the mini fantasy games we'll be playing, and won't have to go up to 2000pts but I thought that if it encouraged other people to get an army painted then why not?

Saying that, running one later in the year when the inevitable 40k bug bites us would be cool. Perhaps in the least a seperate thread should be started for the 40k people.

OK! Update.
So the first week was an unmitigated success. By that I mean that at least some people participated.
Four armies to start the project, though as with these things I think we will see some people join in and others drop out as time goes on.
Here are the first 250pt armies with leaders:

Phillipa's Undead:

My Dark Elves:

Scrowe's Bretonians:

Sam's Undead:

So a nice start!
Next week is still 250pt territory, so get your painting hats on and remember: right hand - coffee, left hand - paint water. Don't get them mixed up.

Those are some sharp photos! One of my collegues just came up behind me when I was checking out Sam's Necro and went "Who's he?!" Hopefully she didn't think it was one of my relatives or something

Perhaps most impressive of all, such are Mike's photography skills that he's managed to get a picture of Tim in there as well (just!)

In all seriousness, very nice photos, well done Mr. B. I'm really enjoying this New Year Project, it's motivated me to get on with painting where I'm normally so lack-lustre. I'd certainly encourage others of a similar disposition to join and see their armies grow.

Just thought I'd throw an update on here.

The following had their 500pt forces completed on Saturday:

Me (Dark Elves)
Scrowe (Bretonians)
Phillipa (Vamps)
Tom (WoC)
Ian (Goblins)

There was talk of other people who got close, or couldn't make it last weekend, so hopefully we'll see a few new painted armies this coming saturday whilst we're still in the 500pt bracket.

Apologies for the lack of pictures, but I am both slovenly and forgetful.

Mine will hopefully appear at the 750pts stage, as I'm not around this week...

I am keeping up though, honest!

I've been painting to try and catch up with my dwarves but i'm not sure what points people are currently at.
Is it 750? 1000?

This weekend (and the nest) will be 1000 points. The force must now follow the army selection rules.
