WWII Campaign

Postby noodle » Monday 18th February, 2013 3:06 pm

Right then.

In April (well whenever we have rooms back after easter) I am planning to start a WWII campaign, starting in 1943. Its a copy of one I've already run before (so I know it works) and its very simple - and very like the 40k campaign rules!

Games would include ANYTHING related to WWII so...

Flames of War
Wings of War (flying battles!)
Victory at sea
*any other WWII game...

Though in reality it will revolve around Flames of War.

Each side (Russia/Allies/Germany) will have an "overall commander" to plan strategy (to be ignored by individual commanders!). The campaign is a turn up and play thing so no need to make "moves" on a map or to attack specific people. In addition you can pay on both sides (but only be overall commander on one if you are!).

More details to follow. I also have the following FoW armies:
British Tank
British Paratroops
German Panzers
German Panzergrenadiers
German infantry
Russian Tanks

I'll mostly be playing the German infantry so my other armies are available to lend...

Finally a word on Victory at sea. The rules are simple and even if you buy models (it comes with counters) it won't set you back much in outlay, or space. Basically its a WWII simulation of naval combat, though I'll need to set my hands on updated rules as the old carrier rules were rather weak...

Anyway posting to gather interest in said campaign (and for Nik to express his disinterest if he so wishes  )

Yay! Duncan, I love your campaign organising prowess!

I'd be super happy to borrow your British paratroopers and proxy them as Americans!

Though, MAYBE I'll have a (most likley small) American army of my own by then. I can't wait till the 1st of March, when all my assignments are handed in, and I can go back to gleefully fleeting from one gaming system to another, painting manically, without a care in the world ^_^

I've liked the look of Wings of War for a while- do you play that already?

Sign me up for ze germans!

Victory at Sea sounds interesting, do you have a link - I did a quick look online and the websites don't work. Does it use scale model kits?

Well we were using small metal ships but you can use counters.

Don't know the links. Rick probably does :D

Navwar 1:3000 is the most common source of ships for Victory at Sea. A full fleet is £12 and the largest ships (battleships) are £1.75. I have an American fleet and a full set of counters.

World War II ships:

Fleet Packs:

It would also be a great way of expanding the campaign to cover the entire 2nd world war as all nations are represented, so we could include Japan and the pacific theatre as well. There is even a USSR fleet although I don't recall any mention of them in any WWII history I've ever read. Still, I guess something has to move into the Black Sea :)
40k: Tau (gothic, AI), Tyranids (NetEpic, gothic), Dark Angels
WFB: Skaven (uncharted seas)
Also Played: Warmachine/Hordes, Infinity, Flames of War

What about Combat Commander: Europe, Memoir '44 or Advanced Squad Leader? I'd try any of them. The only WWII game I have is Chrononauts. Would it spoil the campaign if a time traveller killed Hitler? :P
