X-wing

Postby Mike's Hidden » Monday 7th January, 2013 6:39 pm

For those who haven't seen it, it's the new(ish) fantasyflight star wars dogfighting game (it looks a bit like AI for star wars fanboys - like me).
Models are pre-painted though which may discourage some of you, but I'm rubbish at painting so fine with it.

http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=174

My sister went to some trouble to get it or my xmas present (first production batch is sold out in most places) and from the brief couple of games with my sis/brother-in-law it seems like a fun game (their board game geek friends say it's good as well) so I'd like to play it some more.

Anyone else playing this / going to play it before I go spending too much money on tie-fighters and X-wings?
According to the interweb a reasonable fleet size is 4-8 ships by the way.

I'll be happy to bring it with me some time if people want to have a go (honest I don't work for FFG).
- Yes this means you will see me at wargames when it starts up again with my grey plastics hordes, sorry..

Hi Mike, I've got X Wing and a couple of fleets one Imperial and one Rebel.

I think it's a great game even if I have only played a handful of games and I'd be more than willing to play loads more games. Matt Trindall is also playing, and so is Foz, though you've probably not met him. I'm sure we could encourage more people to play.

Ace, I'd been thinking about coming out of retirement anyway with the new 40k but I hate the unpaintedness of my armies.

Spray painting them the appropriate base colour (and if you're feeling really fancy spray paint the bases black for contrast) can be a handy stand in - obviously its not as nice as having them painted but it does give a neat and uniform look that beats bare plastic and metal.

6th is good (at least I think it is, opinions may vary) but I doubt your genestealer themed nid list will be as effective now. Anyway, good to see you back, we thought you were too cool for wargames now :)
40k: Tau (gothic, AI), Tyranids (NetEpic, gothic), Dark Angels
WFB: Skaven (uncharted seas)
Also Played: Warmachine/Hordes, Infinity, Flames of War

As Ian said, I have it, bought it as soon as it hit the streets and introduced Ian to it last year.
Got both Rebel and Imperial ships and will be looking to get some more (including the new wave) to create some proper 100pt fleets.
Seemed to be a few other people interested and watching when we played at the society, so there might be a few more people who pick it up/learn the rules.

I'd like to give it a go some time. I've read the rules. Looks a bit like Wings of War but Star Wars, so better. Also, this:

It does play very much like Wings of War, and that was fun enough. But as you say it's Star Wars so better.

Kudos on finding that comic :)

Saw someone post that picture on the FFG forums. V funny.

Attach Star Wars to anything and it makes it way better.
Just waiting for a proper miniature wargame to be released ... its has to happen!

We can only hope.

I'd happily throw my money away on it, so long as there's no gungan army.

Woot, more players!

I am sure he will appear, as well as many more. My guess is they will release a/some pack(s) of cards at some point with some extra pilots, ships and upgrades for all the ships, especially when they start running out of actual ships to release.

Same here, but I haven't got my hands on anything other than the box and the big ships due to the crippling equipment shortage the rebels are suffering... (and I guess imperials as well)

There does seem to be a lack of ships coming off the production lines at the moment. Hopefully that will be sorted soon.
If people are desperate I think the shop here in Hull had a few Interceptors and X-Wings when I was in their last week.

Patriots had a decent stock of a-wings when I was in there a couple weeks ago.
Think emporium said they were expecting a restock in a few weeks... But not sure if that's actually something that's going to happen.
But I would like to get hold of the other little ships that are "released but out of stock"

I received an email from Wayland Games last night saying they had just got a restock of Wave 1 models, so if anyone is after some ships then Wargames Emporium and Patriot may have also got some in.

Seems a big restock has been done, several shops have been posting on FB about getting Wave 1 stuff in.

FFG have released some information about the Lambda Shuttle and HWK-290 coming in wave 3. Check out the link to the article, which also includes info on some of the upgrade cards you get with the ships.

So, X-wing tournament time.

Got a few ideas floating around for lists.

Which is better?

Han in Falcon, Gunner Luke, Marksmen, 2 Rookie X-wings.

or

Han in a fully pimped Falcon and Wedge. Extra points on shields and shizzle.
