Battle for Libria III! 40k Campaign event 14th march

Postby noodle » Monday 9th March, 2015 6:35 pm

Location: Gallery, Union building

On Saturday 14th March I will be running a 40k Campaign event as part of the 24-hour geekathon. The event itself will last from 11am until sometime in the evening. Basically it is a "turn up and play" event so people can drop in and out as they want.

If you want to play, bring a 1500 point army and see the sides below.

On the day games will be divided into "rounds" broadly aligning to 2 hour periods with a gap of 30 mins between. The first "round" will begin at 11am (assuming we have at least 2 sides!!) with round 2 at 1:30pm. We will then continue to have rounds for as long as people want! There will be 5 tables so space for 10 concurrently in event. If we have more than 5 we can always send people away to play in the Octagon for a game until 9pm...

Each round I will lay out some scenarios and let each faction assign players/armies to each scenario. If we have odd numbers I will make up any shortfall.

During the day there will be several "reserve" units available. These will be in ongoing reserve and can be taken by anyone at any time (one unit per round per game). So if you are in trouble and need a squad of marines, you can simply roll at the start of your turn... Assuming there are any to have. It might be an idea to have an "overall commander" to "divvy up" reserves each round! If the reserves survive (>50% remaining) then they are placed back in ongoing reserves. If they are destroyed, they are destroyed.

NOTE: The reserves are going to be unbalanced! But if you suddenly find yourself facing a warhound, lose the game but kill the warhound, they won't have a warhound anymore... ;)

I'll sort out any problems on the day and I will have a map to track progress/generate the next "round" of scenarios.

A note on "Spoilers": These factions are independent but have their own agendas. I will be writing up a "fluff background" shortly and will post that on the blog and here.

Slight amendments/additions:

Total reserve pools per side will be 2500pts

units killed are gone. Units losing >50% wounds/HPs must miss a round.

Units in strategic reserve arrive from T2 on a 3+. They never auto arrive.

People bringing reserve units would be appreciated!!!

I'm assuming killed units being gone only applies to the reserve pool?

Will bring some sharks for reserve.

I'll be bringing Tau for the Alliance. Who else is likely to be playing Alliance? We could do with a conflab re: our reserves pool and available models.

I'll be bringing Tau along. The federacy (squats) might put in an appearance as reserve units (using counts as necron rules).
40k: Tau (gothic, AI), Tyranids (NetEpic, gothic), Dark Angels
WFB: Skaven (uncharted seas)
Also Played: Warmachine/Hordes, Infinity, Flames of War

Also, if more than 10 players around the largest faction will have to double up.

I'm not sure what time I'll get down so I might not be there for the first set of games.
