Aleph Campaign*: Current warzones and campaign ideas

Postby noodle » Tuesday 26th March, 2013 5:35 pm

*deliberately called the Aleph campaign not "40k campaign"...

This is just a brief write up of what's going on in the campaign - especially if you've not read all the blog recently :) posted to generate ideas around campaign "events" (not days - could even just be a one off game but driven by fluff).

ALEPH SECTOR: Lord General Thaddeus Roover

ZADOC SUBSECTOR: General Brooke

Hylas: A strategic backwater in the Zadoc subsector, the imperium are none-the-less keen not to let the orks overrun one of their bases in the Mabb Nebula. This is a battle between the orks and imperium, and one where the strategic situation (modifiers) is very unfavourable for the imperium. General Van Dorn presides over the Imperial defence.
IMPERIUM VS. ORKS
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nJvec5UqJLs/U ... 013M42.PNG
- suggestions: Ork vs. Imperium games will count here. Unless someone comes up with a brilliant strategy/plan, ork mods are better (their wins will count more) - battles will take territory.

Tyranteous: Of more importance is the agri world of Tyranteous. It is the last agri world left in the Zadoc subsector following the consumption of Alphe and Betor by Nemesis, and the subsector capital Zadoc is wholly dependent on Tyranteous for its survival. It has been simultaneously invaded by the Tau and chaos (led by Lorek), and the two enemies of the imperium briefly put their differences aside to force the imperium onto the back foot. The strategic position favours the tau, but only just. General Denham faces an uphill struggle to defend the rest of the imperial world.
IMPERIUM VS. TAU VS. CHAOS
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jDWpy3pqwHw/U ... 013M42.PNG
- suggestions: Tau vs. Chaos vs. Imperium games will count here. Chaos are 1 loss away from total defeat. Opportunities here for siege games/planetstrikes etc or imaginative scenarios. Generally if say you decide "we are fighting for XXX settlement" - and send me a result, it will stand in the campaign.

Grimlock: The major world Grimlock has been invaded by Nemesis and the forces of chaos are struggling to defend their only major world in the Zadoc subsector. The strategic situation is balanced, so it looks like the tyranids will have a long war to fight.
CHAOS VS. TYRANIDS
(Map not up to date!)
- suggestions: Tyranid vs. chaos games - each win takes 1 region on the map. Nids are slowly winning. They occupy 75% of the planet

Fort Sparcos: On the once imperial base of Fort Sparcos, the orks continue to frustrate Nemesis in the Zadoc subsector. The tyranids need to defeat the orks here before they can mount an invasion of nearby Kallack, but the more the attack the more orks flood into the system somehow.
ORKS VS. TYRANIDS
(No map, its a big desert with a massive fortress in the middle!)
- suggestions: The tyranids have pushed the orks back to their main defences. Nids attacking ramshackle ork defences would be fitting.

New Cerberex: The tyranids have been sighted around the Imperial held New Cerberex system in the Mabb Nebula but so far no landing has been made by the aliens. Many feel it is only a matter of time.
IMPERIUM VS. TYRANIDS
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_G7YofhgkAs0/S ... ctical.jpg
- suggestions: Imperial vs. Nids - planetstrike or some such battle mission would be appropriate as the nids invade.

PERSEUS DEEPS: General Veers

Ares: In the Perseus Deeps the war on Ares goes on as the eldar stubbornly refuse to leave despite having been ejected by the Imperium once already. Slowly the eldar are grinding down the imperium using hit and run tactics, and they now hold much of the strategic eastern portions of the inhabited sector, including the capital. General Vassilevsky leads the defence of the imperium here.
ELDAR VS. IMPERIUM
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nefFTfJS0YI/U ... 012M42.PNG
(actually the eldar are half way to Caeralon and Hellebron now...)
- suggestions: Eldar vs. Imperium - this has been a bloody footslogging war. Both sides would benefit from some genius ideas, I've got none :D

Parataea: The small tau colony of Parataea continues to hold out against the growing necron empire, but the Harakhty dynasty is slowly winning the war, despite the alliance between the tau and eldar. An alliance which has become all the more strained following the actions of the Shattered Silence kabal, who still hold a tau ethereal captive.
TAU/ELDAR VS. NECRONS
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-LK9VbhxYohM/U ... 212M42.PNG
- suggestions: Alliance vs. necron games count here and will affect the map.

Minos: Imperial agents on Mordecai have determined that following the disastrous imperial attempt to invade Mordecai and the subsequent failed counter attack at Corticant, the master of Chaos, warmaster Stahl of the Iron Warriors, intends to lead his forces against Minos, the smallest and least well defended planet the imperium control in the Perseus Deeps. This plan is not certain however, as Corticant, though almost a fortress, would be a greater proze to the warmaster, and one which would unhinge Veers' defence strategy in the Deeps.
CHAOS VS. IMPERIUM
(no map yet, its not been invaded)

ENCELADUS SUBSECTOR: None

Zoggot: All that is known about Zoggot in the "perdita" Enceladus subsector is that it is currently ork controlled ant the catechism, showing their ability to reach great distances through the use of the chaos "device", have invaded.
ORKS VS. CHAOS
(No map yet, its too small a world. One win will take it in the name of chaos)

Current campaign mission opportunities:

Tyranteous:
Tyranteous Latest: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GdPUGBD_BOI/U ... 413M42.PNG
Tyranteous Previous: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-GAvCxhHp5uU/U ... 013M42.PNG

From the map you can (just about) see Tallengrove Crossing and Lanwick Crossing. These are strategically *vital* crossings over the seas. If the tau can take them then the Imperium in north landing is in a dire state and can't use several positive mods it has. Ideas for games include:
- planetstrike/airborne drops
- kill teams to secure the crossings prior to a big push
- Standard missions to take them (bludgeon approach!)

Chaos really want to gain some ground. They have an opportunity to drive into North Landing and cut of a vast swathe of tau territory if they can get a win. They also want to secure Lanwick Crossing to prevent their armies in Hollydale being cut off.

Lots of strategic moves possible. Worth consulting the map before playing tau-imperial-chaos games (which we have this w/e)

I'd be happy to do an AI troop insertion mission to claim tallengrove crossing - or we could do a custom combined bombing/troop insertion scenario. A kill team for Lanwick crossing would make a lot of sense with stealth and sniper teams trying to sabotage the defences there.

Also for the Tau on Tyranteous, we need to reclaim the rest of Tyranteous Moonbase and there could be some plot twists around securing the webway portal there. The Dark Eldar have stolen our Ethereal in their duplicitous raid. Either the Craftworld Eldar or the Tau need to try and get him back (relic mission with the relic as the ethereal who has presumably been pegged out as bait :) )

Well the weekend didn't change much.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZlFrClNHHAc/U ... 013M42.PNG

The Imperium defeated chaos, pushing them well back from Lanwick Crossing, while a win and a loss for Commander Whitefire sees the tau pushed back from Hammerton in the west, but in the east they take much of North Landing to reach the coast.

So the above still stands - although now the Tau will struggle to take both crossings and make use of it, as they are too far away from Lanwick Crossing. Perhaps its time for a bold strike - maybe landing near the settlement of Ashwater (bottom right) which would allow the tau to open a secure second front if successful. It would need a combined operation of say gothic/AI and a 40k - or a planetstrike/battle mission. Basically something "campaigny" involving 2 wins for Tau.

On the Imperial side, options are more limited. Bombing the tau base in the north would be useful, as would landing and taking Tyranteous Minoris (moon base). Really the Imperium need to gain the strategic upper hand - so mod repairing games, raids, bombing missions would be useful, before then grinding the tau into submission with even win-loss ration but better mods with guard. Or get the space marines to drop on top of Smallgrove after bombing the tau base. Then defend it against counter attack.

Chaos just really need a win before considering "strategy"

Always the same with Chaos. After essays panics are finished I'll be back with Iron Warriors. But hey! we're winning against Orks :)

Just as a note my fleet is currently stationed at Tyranteous Moonbase so if anyone wants to attack it then it should probably be a gothic game.

Or some kind of mission/kill/team/AI get around if you use some imagination... A daemonic incursion is how tom got on the moon base with the tau fleet in orbit in the first place! Though i do want a gothic with imperials.

Oh it's fine, Zogot is the Evil Alliance's faction get together, they had the buffet and the Orks and Daemons then went off doing the waltz to some Big Daemon Band. A violent violent Waltz.

I won't be around Saturday so could people ensure 40k games are logged here? Thanks!

The above summary should give people ideas for campaigny type games (if you want them). I've added current maps to the ongoing campaigns post at the top.

All I will need to know:
- points played
- opponents
- size of win (in VPs if you don't know the 1-2-3-4 pt win system)
and if you know...
- Which planet was fought on
- Campaign/battle notes
- Write up (if you want please do :D)

Raven Guard 5th Battle Company vs Tau (Josh's, not sure which Sept)

2000 pts

1 pt win to Tau.

Strong warp currents blinded the drop pod assault, librarian severely wounded when periled.

Assaulting the Tau battle lines resulted in a 5 turn slap fest between tactical marines and the cowardly xenos commander. Game ended on turn 7 before a winner could be declared for the combat.

Sent you results via facebook, although I made an error - it was 6-4 to me not 5-3 but I don't think it makes any difference.

Rather dishonourable, but guess I should claim the rare win.

1500pts: Death Guard (yes, yes, I'll come up with names) vs Orks with eldar allies... (Sorry I forget your general's name)

VPs: 5-1 to Death Guard if I calculate right.

I guess I have to claim (and plaguify) Zoggot? Would fit in with his armies background, now orks have lost it they'll turn towards a craftworld ? I'll leave details to you as I have little clue at the minute, happy to help out with a nice, refreshing plague anywhere thats needed...

The death guard forces emerged from their slumber in an underground bunker to find a grot had been fired into a nearby tree... The orks began with a rather unfortunate shock attack gun shot at the eldar commander send to aid them and everything went downhill from there. The eldar forces faught valiantly and almost tipped the tide as the ork commander smashed into the death guard ranks taking out the chaos lord himself, his bodyguards and a unit of obliterators before being shot down by cowardly havocs with lascannon. Meanwhile the ork boys, expecting to wade through the death guard ranks also, crashed into a wall of plague ridden bodies and were hacked down. In the end the eldar forces were unable to save the grot or the warboss sent to retrieve him and had to withdraw.

And back to painting!

Orks (Uzfang) vs Necrons (Chris)

3 pt win to Necrons I think (I can't remember the exact VP, but it was something similar to 80000-0.2 (or at least that's what it felt like...), bascially I didn't get tabled...)...

So I have:
Parataea: tau defeat necrons 2pt win. Y'osh'toki re-taken.

Tyranteous: tau defeat corellian storm guard. Salient into north vale cut off, Fallenvale surrounded and besieged by Tau.

Zoggot: Death Guard 3pt win vs. orks with eldar allies. Zoggot falls to chaos!

Necrons 3pt win vs. Uzfang (modifiers/building game)
